Wood will rot, decay, splinter and need years of aftercare, UPVC will not rot, fade or ever need painting, just a damp cloth from time to time.
There is also the glass to consider, we use "Low E" low emission glass complying with the latest building regulations, which cuts heat loss from buildings as part of a Government initiative.
Finally we should always consider security and can share with you our specifications as follows:
Windows - High impact resistance reinforced UPVC, internally glazed, key locking handles, top and bottom shootbolts and central compression cams, high security hinges (friction stays) screwed to reinforced steel.

Every door or window we install is made to measure specifically for your home. This ensures a good fit and finish for your replacement windows or doors and allows you to change the size of an existing window if you wish.
uPVC has many benefits over timber windows that make it a modern and desirable alternative.
Energy efficiency - reduction in the amount of heat lost through drafty windows keeps heat in which reduces energy bills and is good for the environment.
Security - strong multi-point locking mechanisms that make your home more secure and give you more peace of mind
Low maintenance - no more painting windows every 2-3 years! This significantly reduces costs or the time and effort involved in painting timber windows
Durability - uPVC is weather resistant and does not rot
Safety - building regulations state that newly installed windows have to have adequate fire escapes to ensure the safety of your family in the event of a fire
Noise reduction - this is especially important if you live close to a road or in a noisy area
Easy to keep clean - just use warm soapy water
Styles:
Most of our customers choose a style of window which matches the style of their building and may be similar to the style of the existing windows or doors. We can help you choose a style that will be sympathetic to the age of your building and we understand the importance of this in an area where there are many older buildings. Georgian bars can be fitted in lead (which looks very authentic) to give the windows or doors a more traditional look. The advantage of this in double glazed units is that security is not comprimised unlike timber frames which may use seperate panes of glass.
We are happy to advise you on which styles would look best and how we can meet your needs. However, we need to ensure that the style of window ensures an adequate fire escape to comply to building regulations.
You might be surprised by what is possible these days, for example the heritage style vertical sliding window system looks amazingly like original sash windows.
Colours:
You also have a choice of different colours and effects for your uPVC windows or doors. Popular choices include white, elegant mahogany and new golden oak wood effects. If you choose a wood effect you can still have white uPVC on the inside if you would prefer.
We only use high quality products that are Standard approved. Locking, security systems and the quality of materials can be very variable and we choose to use suppliers that provide high quality. We are also concerned that the products we use meet fire safety standards and also ensure child safety.
